The scientific journal "The European Zoological Journal" (140 points according to the list of MEiN) has published an article entitled "Differences in the flight initiation distance near expressways and in open farmland in wintering Common Buzzards (Buteo buteo)", co-authored by Paweł Cieśluk M.Sc., a doctoral student at the Doctoral School of UwS in the biological sciences discipline.
The publication presents the results of a study on the impact of expressway infrastructure on the behaviour of Common Buzzards (Buteo buteo). To measure responses to human disturbance, the flight initiation distance (FID) of common buzzards foraging on expressways and in open agricultural areas was examined. The results confirmed the behavioural plasticity of these birds and may provide a theoretical basis for measures to reduce the risk of collisions with moving road vehicles.
