The Eurasian Curlew Numenius Arquata is a charismatic bird species which population is declining rapidly across its European range. Efforts are being taken in many countries to stop this negative trend. On February 9-11, over 100 people from all over Europe (United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Poland and Finland) engaged in the conservation of this species gathered in King's Lynn, United Kingdom.
The event was hosted by the Curlew Action charity, which key mission is to support Curlew conservation. Poland was represented by Przemysław Obłoza, a PhD candidate at the UwS Doctoral School, Dominik Krupiński (Wildlife Society “Stork”), Michał Korniluk (Museum and Institute of Zoology of the Polish Academy of Sciences) and Tomasz Tumiel (Nature Society “Great Snipe”). The Polish group gave a presentation: "Polish Curlews: population, conservation, headstarts". In addition to establishing new contacts and exchanging experiences, the meeting resulted in planning a return visit by Curlew Action members to Poland, which is scheduled for April this year.
