On January 28, 2023, a doctoral student in biological sciences, Pawel Ciesluk, M.Sc., conducted an ornithological excursion in Ostrów Mazowiecka for the fourth time , as part of the countrywide Winter Bird Count campaign. During the trip, 429 bird specimens, representing 13 species, were counted.
The Winter Birdwatch action takes place on the last weekend of January throughout Poland and consists of observing and counting birds spending the winter in close human company. The national coordinator of the Winter Bird Watch (in Polish Zimowe Ptakoliczenie) is the Polish Society for the Protection of Birds, which, based on the results of observations, prepares a list of the most numerous birds encountered at this time.
