Taking care of the interdisciplinary nature of the education process at the Siedlce University Doctoral School, on October 5, 2022, on the initiative of the Director of the Institute of Agriculture and Horticulture, dr hab. Jacek Sosnowski, professor of the university, at the Faculty of Agrobioengineering and Animal Sciences at the Institute of Agriculture and Horticulture, a seminar was held related to the exhibition on "Old species and varieties of cereals".
The exhibition was organized by the Agricultural Advisory Center (CDR) in Brwinów in cooperation with the Plant Breeding and Acclimatization Institute - National Research Institute (IHAR-PIB) in Radzików, and the lecture on "Polish System of Storage and Use of Gene Resources" for the doctoral students of the Siedlce University Doctoral School was delivered by Dr. Grzegorz Gryziak of the National Center for Plant Gene Resources (Plant Breeding and Acclimatization Institute - National
Research Institute in Radzików).
The exhibition of old species and varieties of cereal plants is aimed at familiarizing visitors with traditional and regional varieties, which are available in the database of the National Center of Plant Gene Resources of IHAR-PIB in Radzikow, commonly known as the Gene Bank. Currently, more than 78,000 varieties, breeding lines and local populations are stored there in the form of seeds. It is one of the largest Gene Resource Banks in Europe.
